What is a Platform Scale?
Platform scales are a type of heavy duty floor scale and feature large weighing areas that are perfect for weighing heavy and oversized goods safely, such as pallets, crates and boxes, thanks to their high weighing capacities. They often feature sloped sides or ramps to allow for subjects to be wheeled up onto the weighing pan safely and easily.
What is a Platform Scale Used For?
Platform scales are used to weigh bulky subjects in factories, warehouses, shipyards and shipping departments, with capacities of up to 3000kg, meaning they can be used to weigh the heaviest of items.
Platform scales are frequently used to weigh products for shipping, with our PT Platform Scale featuring a checkweighing function to make the checking of shipment weights fast and efficient. The PT also comes with a parts counting function to help minimise time spent on laborious counting tasks.
How Does a Platform Scale Work?
A platform scale is normally fairly straightforward to use, but care must be taken especially when weighing heavy items. Begin by setting up your platform scale on a flat, even surface in an area with enough space to safely manoeuvre your subject onto the scale. If using a trolley or sack truck, ensure that your ramp is fitted securely to the scale. You should also attach and set up your weighing scale indicator, either on a worktop, mounted to a wall or on one of our indicator stands. Next, choose the desired weighing application – this could be dynamic weighing, parts counting, checkweighing or regular weighing.
You are now ready to weigh. Wheel or lift your subject safely onto the weighing pan and let it settle for a few seconds before reading the weight reading on the display.
